I have officially gone crazy, the amount of work is piling up, I have to make a 3 piece outfit (jacket, skirt and top), accessories for it, style a photoshoot with the outfit, final storyboards (7 A3 storyboards), trendbook and moodboard, tech drawings, embellishment project (5 moodboards, 5 A3 storyboards), 2 illustrations and 7x5 pages exploring outfits - mostly all for the 15th of March. Oh yes, there's also a history essay, business work and a communications project.
So I'm going on hiatus until at least the 18th of March. I gotta love ya and leave ya so I can somehow do all of this work. xxxxxxx

Finally got a new computer! My eldest brother put it together for me and gave it to me free! It's crazy, it has an LED screen and he installed Windows 7. I feel very lucky to have two big brothers looking out for me. So I started sewing up a jacket today and I have to be finished it by Friday. I have to stay at college every day until 4:30 and then come home and work on multiple assignments! Between fixing dinner and trying to get some chill time in, I fall into bed and then repeat the cycle all over again.
3rd year is intense, I'm quite excited to be designing a seven piece collection but first I have to finish 140 technical drawings for next Wednesday. Yeah, that's one hundred and forty. I'm seriously dying. Right now I have 35 in pencil so still not a quarter of the way yet and I forgot them all at college today between sewing darts and rushing home. I can't wait to wear my graduation outfit, one of those rights of passage I see in the movies...mostly I'm in it forthe hat what it means. It's just, at the beginning, all you want to do is be able to visualise the end or be closer to it. It's so hard to imagine now when I'm right at the start. Here's my final illustration I handed in last week

Stealing some time to blog! It's the first week of 3rd year, my final year and truth be told I was freaking out about it. You forget things like all the different methods of sewing in a zip or doing welt pockets (curse you welt pockets!) and you start to think, "Oh no, am I supposed to be here, am I equipped enough?" Then I started to get into it and some skills came back out (except I don't think the welt pocket skills will ever come out) and you begin to make a mental note to forget about fear and doubt, until another time when you think you have no idea what's going on again.
The funny thing is, doubts and fears present themselves in other ways. One of my problems with art is that I do things too lightly, I'm too scared to really push down, really go into it. My art lecturer told me she sees the beginning of something happening but I'm too scared to take it there. I am not a natural artist, I'm one of those creative types who can't draw. I need to go further, need to work into it more and more and more, you think you're finished until you add a little black here and mix unusual colours there and it gets more dimension. My favorite medium is colour pencil because I find erasers so helpful but I think one day, I'll have to give up the eraser, till then x

I've been an internet junkie since I was 9, I kid you not. I used to make little websites, things were quite innocent then, no facebook, just guestbooks! I was just part of a bunch of little kids being creative. Making websites is an art, in fact most computer coding, flash, animation or photoshop work is seen as less to do with talent than it is, but it is a creative outlet that requires skill like any other art form.
I had to do my last figures on photoshop and I think I'll continue digitally rendering, I'm the type of person that has great ideas but I can't put them to paper. I can make them or write about them but drawing them never quite captures what I have in my head. This is frowned upon, I'm always being told to sketch more and that my rendering is bringing down my concepts. You're never going to be good at everything and that's ok! My art skills are good enough for me right now, they have developed quickly over the last two years. I prefer compiling collages, writing and thinking about what I want to make, drawing takes me very long to perfectly articulate something that I want to.
I wish my course was tailor-made for every student, everyone just needs to be encouraged and appreciated for what they're good at. You don't ever really get a pat on the back for anything in fashion, it's a competitive dog eat dog business so I guess this is all good preparation. It's fine, I'm a happy person so I can take the bullshit. Sometimes I think some of the things that are revered in life; speed, minimum input to get maximum output etc are things that we've got a bit wrong. Do everything you do with heart rather and try to have fun whenever you can. A life of happiness and fulfillment is more important than an assembly line state of being even though that's what's being thrown at us.
Remember that bigger isn't always better and quantity limits quality. I'm always willing to learn though, life is about evolving, growing and changing. Never stunt your growth and never listen to naysayers! People love to put you down or keep mum when you do something great, it's hard to find people who are happy for you. Gimme a call if you need one x
