Venice Beach is something special. These photos were taken at the Boardwalk where locals and tourists alike, flock to take in the experience. People are selling their wares and there's always performance artists around doing backflips and breakdancing or yelling at patrons to check out the famed Freakshow. Tacky t-shirt shops dot the graffiti-adorned promenade, hippies sell crystals and the skatepark is always buzzing. People play Dominoes under the palm trees while muscle maniacs frequent the outdoor gym and couples ride bikes or rollerblade past food shops that deep-fry Twinkies. The atmosphere is happy and exciting. I loved the day I spent rummaging through vintage clothing and people-watching. If I lived there, I'd go there all the time to snap photos. It's not just a hipster's paradise, this is where people from all walks of life come to hang out. I recall hearing Nkosi Sikelel' iAfrika blasting from somewhere, proving that one is never really all that far from home.

Last week Jasna AKA FashionJazz and I attended the David Tlale & Joshua De Bliquy Exhibition at The Bromwell Boutique Mall. It was a beautiful Cape Town evening so we enjoyed some champagne and chatted while the keyboardist played and the sun went down. Come nightfall, Tlale's models sauntered around the venue filled with De Bliquy paintings. The girls paused to pose in gowns and dresses crafted from opulent fabric. Design features included beautiful embellishments, a flirtation with ostrich feathers and fringing, high scoop necklines and white to pink ombre. I'd say David's gorgeous garments and Joshua's dreamy art are a match made in creative heaven.

Cheryl Arthur was a highlight for me this year at fashion week, specifically her digital prints which were the star of her collection. Her romantic prints on delicate dresses melded the warmth of Baroque, the heavenliness of Mannerism and the beauty of Rococo beautifully while the Union Jack, Statue of Liberty, cherubs, flamingos and florals all made an appearance. This is how I would do florals - light and smudgy like watercolour. Hair, make up and music gave a rebellious feel to balance out the dreaminess making for great juxtaposition. Lovely, I need one of these dresses!
