The FEDISA Graduate Collection Show is now cemented as one of my highlights of the events season. Every fashion lover receives a dose of the avant garde aesthetics that we yearn for, later progressing into mainstream prêt-à -porter. For example, how lovely is Kirsty Regasto's two-tone men's shirt? The graduate students were on trend as this year saw many elegant high-low skirts and dresses, sweet pastels and a dash of dark velvet.
David Tlale hit it out of the park for me. His show titled, "I am not coloured, I am colour" took place in the middle of a closed street in the Bo-kaap where the quaint pastel houses were the ultimate backdrop for an all-white collection. The title says it all as the absence of colour in the garments emphasize the character of them hence of the proverbial "color". Great collections tell a story and are solidly cohesive. I am dying over the ombre stockings and his strong and interesting cuts. Add delightful embelishments and delicate fabrics and you have juxtaposition fashion heaven. I seriously loved the paneled men's blazer which reminded me of grading blocks while pattern cutting. What a breath of fresh air.
Spero Villioti knows that glam beach hats are my wallet's kryptonite. So here's the deal, summer 2010, I got my hands on an awesome white floppy sunhat. The water warped it after I fell into the pool so summer 2011, I picked a new one up but I packed it in for my Mediterranean cruise and ended up leaving it in the cabin #whitegirlproblems. So there I was, watching a pretty beachwear collection, cursing my clumsiness. I really enjoyed the show, Missoni-esque zig zags, a healthy dose of nautical and chic black & white wraps. Hand me a cocktail as soon as the sun comes out.
Tart was light and cute featuring v necklines, bright dresses, a few fun prints and some cool velvet shorts. Models gleefully threw their clutches to the guests at the end of the show. You can view the entire collection on Facebook!
Phew, life has been busy since MBFWCT! I thought I'd share some colourful menswear from Viyella's 2012 collection to start off my last week of personal runway coverage. I've been hanging on to the all of the S/S images because they've made me look so forward to summer. Will you be donning brights, pastels or are you still loving winter's dark shades? Let me know, let's catch up on twitter or instagram - @safashiongirl x
It seems to me that Hip Hop has grown up in terms of garment construction and trend direction so I quite enjoyed their collection. The models walked slowly to the end of a fan-blown runway, taking their time to pose and showcase the dresses. We were delighted with metallics, romantic prints (one of my favorites was a European architecture print maxi) and spidery sheer slips. Velvet, chiffon, buttery silks and raw satin ruled the runway while well-placed feathers and faux fur added touches of texture. As always, you can find more photos on Facebook.
Ruff Tung's colour ways conjured up thoughts of white sand beaches, turquoise oceans and coral under the sea. We also saw some laser-cut acrylic disc accessories, gathers, batwing sleeves, delicate blouses and the peplum trend that I saw all over the UK club scene this Summer.
