My Christmas Favs from Shimansky
11/18/2015Where does the time go? I can't believe that it's almost Christmas - or that I'm at the age where all of my friends are getting engaged. I recently made my way to Shimansky at the V & A Waterfront to visit the Cape Town Diamond Museum. I also got to see Shimansky's workshop where I watched diamonds being cut by their eagle-eyed experts. Imagine one of them going for dinner with their friends; "How was work today, Joe?" "Oh you know, the usual, just cut some diamonds." #casual. After the tour, I went to the showroom to try on some amazing rings - what an experience! I've decided to compile a droolworthy Christmas wishlist because hey, even if I won't get a My Girl ring, I can certainly dream about it!
Millennium Diamond Earrings
The trademark design concept of the Millennium collection is a Shimansky diamond delicately set between two bands. I love the idea of applying the famous ring design to earrings. Always remember the 4 Cs: Clarity, Cut, Carat and Colour. Decide which is most important to you and then play around to find something that works for you; for example, if you're more lenient towards Clarity and Colour, you can still can get a beautiful diamond to suit a smaller budget.
Evolym Diamond Ring
The innovative Evolym design was aptly named by writing the words, "My love" in reverse so the collection both literally and figuratively reflects your love for your partner. This is a truly unique engagement ring and what girl doesn't want something different? While the Millennium style is set between two bands, the Evolym style is set between three. It's a beautiful visual metaphor for two people being joined together by their love for one another.
Solitaire Tanzanite Pendant
Tanzanites are actually rarer than diamonds but are sold for less. If you're looking for a bit of colour, you can't go wrong with a beautiful Shimansky Tanzanite. It also happens to be the birthstone of those born in December so if you have a special Sagittarian or Capricorn in your life, you know what to do.
My Girl Halo Microset Diamond Ring
So here's the deal, diamonds are usually cut with 57 facets to reflect light well. Mr Yair Shimansky has patented the most sparkly, square-cut masterpiece that is the My Girl diamond featuring a whopping 71 facets. You have to see one of these in person because you won't be able to take your eyes off of it. I have never seen a diamond reflect light so beautifully. This particular ring is on sale and it is ridiculously reasonable for an engagement ring, nevermind for the exclusive My Girl cut. I would die if someone gave me a My Girl ring - but I would die happy.
Dancing Diamond Heart Pendant
Sales Exec Shaheema showed me her own Dancing Diamond necklace and I thought it was really cool. The pendants feature a dazzling diamond suspended in such a way that it looks like it's dancing. This necklace is the perfect gift that won't break the bank this festive season as Shimansky is currently offering a free chain and has the pendants on sale for Christmas.
