I admit it, I'm a total 90s kid. I remember lusting over Doc Martens and buying fluffy pens so I could be like Cher in Clueless. By the way that trick works, with 9 year olds at least. My first crush did pick up the fluffy pen I must have moronically and conspicuously dropped. Thanks Decio. Yeah I have issues, I also used to pretend I was walking in slow motion past guys I liked...Anyway, Empire Records is a fun Generation X flick that is not to be missed. The year is 1995 and we spend one day with of a bunch of teens working together at Empire Records, a music store in New Jersey.

Lucas is an intellectual guy who has begun spouting philosophical quotes today, Gina is an attention-seeking and promiscuous firecracker, Corey is a type-A goodie two shoes, Mark is a music-obsessed goofball, AJ is a lovesick artist and Deb is a cynical and depressed bad ass. This movie is a perfect slice of the 90s, a bit of nostalgia for the people born before and a glimpse of the times for those born after. Empire Records inspired me to work at a music store (I'm sure you can tell I was very impressionable) and for a few days I got to experience a little bit of Empire. There really are all sorts of people working at a place like that, coming up with lists of cult movies to submit to the higher ups, killing time around music before band practice or championing an under-appreciated genre that they loved when they were young. In my week there, I'd gotten a marriage proposal from a co-worker, spilled soda everywhere after coming to work with one of my first hangovers, laughed at a strange album someone found by a French child singer named Jordi and played CDs for teenagers plugged into huge headphones before they would walk away without buying anything.

Alas, it was at the time when CD Warehouse was just taken over by their very own "Music Town" and I started around the same time that the lifers were leaving. The contract I had to sign was not my cup of tea and my discipline was lacking on my gap year after travels fell through so I quit. Everyone told me it used to be a great place to work before the big takeover. Years later I found marriage proposal guy working at a bookstore while my good friend Carmen pulled an AJ and went to art school. So don't let anyone tell you that you watch too many movies or that things only happen in the movies, just tell them that they're on the wrong side of the screen. After all is said and done, we can always re-visit Empire Records where one day seems like it's enough to really change things. This movie leaves me feeling young and hopeful. Damn the man, save the empire!

Polyvore till I die! My main PC with hours and hours of music is dead so I need to get it fixed. In the meantime I've been making playlists on 8tracks with what I can remember from my iTunes. When I was a little girl, fashion was not first - I just wanted to become a rock star. I used to look up to Shirley Manson, Gwen Stefani and Dolores O'Riordan from The Cranberries and write terrible songs on my exam pads. Time for a new collage, me thinks! I've always had an affinity for gothic fashion ever since I was old enough to idolize Lydia Deetz and Wednesday Addams. Now I'm adding the amazing American Horror Story's Violet Harmon into the mix. Imagine that sleepover, they could sit in a room full of candles and trade playlists while they talked about inner turmoil. Fashion event of the season.

I'm currently sorting out some last minute errands for my trip, obsessively listening to a Paul Banks album and thinking about popcorn but knowing it's far too freezing to venture out of bed. I'm almost 100% healed, my doctors were amazing. My anesthesiologist told me she was giving me a pink IV because pink was the new black. Coincidentally, it matched my hospital bracelets. Accessorizing in hospital? We might need a montage. As I began to fall asleep, the last thing I remember saying was "You guys, we should do this more often, we should hang out". The stitches are dissolving and the last bandages are slowly coming off so I'm feeling brand new.

It's been really hot in Cape Town this month! This is my ultimate Saturday morning get up complete with creature comforts and bikini bottoms for when it's time to have a refreshing afternoon swim. I'm obsessed with the flamingo slippers so I'm going to order them and walk around my house like a loon.

When I saw this amazing Tiffany & Co. Bottle Pendant by Elsa Peretti, I knew just what to wear with this beauty. I often find myself working outfits around accessories because I just love how they can really take a look to new heights. This Elsa Peretti pendant is so chic and pretty that I thought I'd keep clothes casual but throw in some tough touches to juxtapose it nicely. Add a ton of eyeliner, a sophisticated Tiffany's clutch and keep everything else simple for a clean, cool and modern look. Perfect for a weekend shopping trip then lunch with the girls afterwards.

What do you think of this iconic pendant?

I'm a sucker for theme dressing. I remember in November I was looking forward to getting wild this summer which ultimately proved to be too dangerously easy. I'm so clumsy so I end up getting into trouble one way or another. From waking up around noon next to cans of deodorant and brand new broken accessories to hitting up toy stores to buy lilos to laze around on.

I'm super pale so I will get a bruise from a Facebook poke and at this moment in time I'm covered in bruises and the weather is beautifully misty so it's perfect timing to grab a Mr. Bump cup of tea and catch up on some series with my friend Anina.

Make everything into a fashion statement, even your Mickey Mouse band aids. x
