These days hashtags evolve into trends; someone tweets about a leather jacket with barnacles replacing studs and the next thing you know, kids on Tumblr are dying their hair turquoise and wearing dolphin tees with varying degrees of seriousness. Seapunk has blown up online this year, created from a collective internet moodboard of sounds, textures and images. Think oceanic aesthetics, metallic fabrics, aqua colour ways, yin yangs and bindis with 90s dance meets Crystal Castles providing the soundtrack. Elements of this look were seen in the beautiful Chanel SS13 Resort collection.
The Big Lebowski soundtrack makes me want to lay in the sun. I'm knee deep in assignments again after I finished my final men's piece, I've got great photos of 3 of the first pieces of my collection and I can't wait to blog about them. Writing is the best way to reflect on things and clear out my head, I always tried to keep a diary. I need to find mine, reading back on where you once were is enlightening. It shows that no matter what things were like, they always change. I can't wait to live in the moment again, I get to here and there but it's not enough for me. I just have endless tedious tasks right now, that whole state of things where you have to do things you don't want in order to get where you want to be.
Be your own superhero. x
I really think happiness is about balance so I'm always trying to achieve that kind of balance. It's so funny, I need to be in the right space in my head to focus on work (or so I tell myself) I light candles and incense to try and get things more zen, hahaha. Music is actually great to work to. I never used to be into calming things so much, I think over the years I've learned how much I love the little things like bubble baths and time to read. Those are the types of things that make me feel content in a personal sense. Socially I crave more chaotic things like action and spontaneous adventures. Having so much work has definitely shown me the things I didn't know that I valued so much. "In" trays are bullshit, I've got happiness quotas to fill here! I'm all for working hard but I'm tired, I just finished an outfit and there's no break whatsoever, it's just onto the next thing. Neverending storyyyyyyyy.
These are some themed A5 moodboards I did at the end of 2009 to brainstorm my final collection. Balance, Dia de los Muertos and pain. When I was in Canada I found the cutest little Day of the Dead wedding cake toppers in a vintage store in Kensington martket. Sometimes when you focus on something, you only then open your eyes and see that it's all around you. I have a haul of updates coming, I can't wait until the 29th when I get a week off. Enjoy your weekend! x
I've got some great ideas for my final collection which, this time next year will hopefully be finished. I'm very excited to finish 2nd year, the prospect of living in Canada for a month in December is tempting me! All that shopping. Guess how light I'm going to pack? Besides the thermal underwear and ski clothes. So here it is, the first toe dip into 3rd year's 9 piece collection.
It's been so long, too long (dare I appreciate more work on my plate) since I've posted a fashion storyboard. These boards were to be made entirely on Photoshop. While my figures are a bit 2D, I was going for a boxy feel. I am in love with this method of doing boards as I found it very quick and fun. Here is my moodboard and subsequent storyboards.
