I'm going fabric shopping today, the best time to actually go is early on weekdays as it's not so crowded but I don't have that opportunity so I leave it until the weekend when I'm not too tired to walk up 5 flights of stairs. Today, I'm going somewhere new, I've been loyal to Fabric City but I have to look around, I wish I had more time to look at fabric but usually I just get what I need on a list, promising myself that I will browse in the holidays. Which of course, doesn't happen when the fabric store you hear great things about is miles and miles away from your house. I'm thinking of black, white and grey for the new tops, this way I can customize them with my crazy buttons and studs.
I'm really happy in my life right now, creating tangible things with my hands has helped to make me feel as if anything is possible. Old world skills should still be taught in schools, I was lucky enough to go to a primary school that included needlework in the syllabus. In saying this though, there are amazing videos on YouTube these days that can teach you tons about knitting and sewing. So it all balances out in the end. Our generation is so lucky to have information at our fingertips.
I now realize what happiness is, I'm spending time (when I get a chance!) with people who aren't so negative. When I was younger, I didn't fit in so I thought anyone who did accept me was a gem. Even up to last year I made that mistake but I have a better perspective on things now. It's hard looking at one's past, so many things I thought or did were so naive and to think that when I was 16 I was sure that I knew everything there was to know about the world.
Change is very good and too many people are scared of it! I had a friend once who was scared of it for a living and that's so not me! I wasted so much time trying to change people to fit in with me instead of figuring it out and letting go, giving everyone the freedom to find the people they are actually suited to. You need to fill your life with positive people who influence you to do better and encourage and support you. And what's right for one person is terrible for another so just follow your heart. There is a fine line between changing and replacing though, so don't replace, change! x
I have been having an amazing Winter break. I'm finally getting some time to myself. I've been looking at fabrics, buttons, etc on Ebay, such treasures! I bought these buttons the other day, I love them, I adore details. No idea what to do with them yet, haha, maybe I'll put them all down a soda pop waitress dress.
I found the most amazing fabrics to use for pajama pants. Just fun things; teenage mutant ninja turtles, frogs on skateboards, retro telephones and cupcakes. You will find me wearing ducks and bubble pj prints, there's such freedom in pajamas.
A while back I had some time on my hands so I made this pattern for my very own sweetheart dress. I want to make a black one and white one with contrasting decorative buttons going down the middle and supportive boning. I must find the pattern, hopefully I didn't throw it away.

I gave my boy the white shirt I made, it's crazy, I can't really understand how I made it, it's all a blur, all I remember is enjoying topstitching the buttonstand and waking up early to hand sew the collar. Everything else? I think gnomes came in and did it for me. I lost my tracing wheel, I must buy another and trace my old corset pattern! It's time to get started on white satin Sanlam xx

On Thursday I have the Hello Kitty Mac Launch, I'm so excited. I get to preview the range before everyone else and it has so many intense pinks which get me all crazy like. I recently discovered that although I have an aversion to pink, it works for my pale complexion the best. Which is sort of what life does to you, doesn't it? I'm not into blonde guys and I bet you I'll end up marrying one.
I went to an 80s party last week, it was so fun, like being in a time warp. Love the clothes, love the music. This year it's all about themes due to all the 21sts I'm going to. My next one is themed, "kiddies". Every fashion savvy girl knows it's about making the theme work for you and not working for the theme. Unless you roll that way of course, nothing wrong with being silly.
Every day there's been something going on, fabric shopping, story boards to finish, patterns to make, grading to avoid (oh god I hate grading). Right now I'm very content to relax and veg out, brother.
I've discovered how valuable research is, designs just fall into place after enough research is done. Here are my latest designs for the Crystal Gala, the theme was Venetian Masked Ball.

I'm making the 1st one although I do love the other two. I'm making it in green and accenting it with peacock feathers and my scary as hell venetian mask. I swear I have to go into accessories or writing because I always seem to gravitate towards those fields. I was just dripping with excitement when I thought of an elegant ball gown coupled with a scary as hell venetian mask.
I'm going to post the 80s party photos next ;)
