Minimalist Perfection - Emma Stone in Calvin Klein

No one panic, Emma Stone only has Blonde hair for her current role in the new Spiderman Movie. I love Emma as a pale redhead so I must give her snaps for looking so great because I know a new dye job requires changes in styling. This peach gown suits her complection beautifully.

Sparkle + Charisma - Amber Riley in ?

I love this number on Amber Riley because she has the personality to carry it off. Both her and the dress shine and it looks fantastic on her body. Never hide your body because it will only make you look bogger than you are, celebrate it with the right cut like Amber does.

Warrior Woman - Anne Hathaway in Armani Prive

I love Anne Hathaway in this because it's bold and edgy. We're very used to seeing perfectly beautiful gowns on her so it's great to see her get a little fierce. The back of the dress is very sexy, with a low but elegant open-back. This reminds me of Matthew Britten a little bit which is always a good thing.

Getting Closer - Jennifer Love Hewitt in Romona Keveza

I always feel a little sorry for Jennifer Love Hewitt, I've watched her be made fun of in the press, produce her own TV show when the work dried up after her 90s reign and I even remember her trying her hand at a music career ("BARENAKED! Can't take it!"). So I tend to root for her but she's been consistently mediocre on the red carpet for a while. I can see this dress at a prom store and the hair doesn't help the matric dance feel either. I actually like the top, I wish the bottom was sleek because it just ends up looking cheap to me. She's getting better though!

Miss Mess - Helena Bonham Carter in Vivienne Westwood

When I was growing up I was a die hard Tim Burton fan because my mother raised me on a diet of Beetlejuice and Edward Scissorhands. This get-up IS Helena. Helena is mismatched shoes and tulle explosions. Her beauty is in her twisted and chaotic sense of self. I'm always happy that there are people to shake up the red carpet and remind everyone that fashion is about expressing yourself; an extension of your personality, worst dressed lists be damned. She's a character, wouldn't you love to hang out with her and her husband for a crazy evening?

This Is How You Do Princesss - Olivia Wilde in Marchesa

I don't know if this works so well because Olivia has an impeccable style or just because it's a beautifully crafted dress. It's difficult to pull off a voluminous dress without looking cheesy these days but this is every girl's ball gown fantasy for modern times. It's gorgeous, fun and has some celebratory spirit going on. It's one of my favorites because I always think an awards show is an opportunity for a girl to go all out with formal wear that usually only works in fashion editorials.

Boho Retro - Heidi Klum in Marc Jacobs

This is what I mean, it's an awards show, don't you want to get all dolled up? This Marc Jacobs dress seems so resort to me, great for a day event or movie premier or going on a yacht with Rachel Zoe. I've seen Heidi turn up the glam so to me, she just looks like she's about to fill in for Serena Van Der Woodsen on the set of Gossip Girl.

Vintage Lovely - Leighton Meester in Burberry Prorsum 

Now if you want to to something a little more bohemian at the Golden Globes, I think this is the perfect option. You can be different, embrace your eclectic fashion sense and still look elegant while you're at it. I know a lot of people will think this is too old for Leighton but I think it's amazing on her because she looks so regal and confident. She loves to experiment with fashion and tries new looks all the time so it works for her. Her accessories are amazing and the loose hair keeps things fresh and youthful.  

Gorgeous girl, lovely silhouette but I do this it's a bit of an outdated dress. I'm sorry Versace, this looks like something you let Victoria Beckham wear in the early 2000s when she had hair extensions. I've seen this cut a thousand times in the beginning of the decade which is all fine and dandy, lovely cut and all (would work especially good on a model) but meh. I don't like the extra fringing piece, would have been so much better if the skirt was one clean layer. I'm sure most people won't be so cynical about this because she is a hot girl in a red hot dress. 

Bedroom Vixen - Halle Berry in Nina Ricci

Hi Halle, you're sexy and this dress looks great on screen, in photos though I just get this schizophrenic underwear vs dress vibe. I think this might work at a different event much better than it reads at the Golden Globes.

It's Growing On Me - Natalie Portman in Viktor & Rolf

Ok Miss Portman. Let's get this straight. So, I was totally betting on Dior since you're the new face of Miss Dior Cherie or Lanvin because you love your Lanvin, or even Rodarte since they did some amazing costumes for Black Swan. So when you show up in Viktor & Rolf:
minds are blown, yo.

I love Viktor & Rolf, they are one of my all time favorite fashion houses because I think they are genius.  When I first saw this I thought: this beautiful drapery, this buttery fabric, this amazing colour...that...that bright red rose...with a stem and some leaves...hmmmm. Then I thought, if only the rose wasn't there...no too boring. Then I thought, wait maybe if the stem wasn't there only the rose...then I saw,  thank god the stem is there because that's actually what makes the detail work. Touche' Viktor & Rolf. You have interested me yet again. 

Bringing The Drama - Lea Michele in Oscar de la Renta

I really detest the fabric on this dress; I was cringing when I saw a close-up of it on TV. It looks so cheap and too heavy for the romantic style going on, I look at the bottom left of her dress and I just see bedsheets. I really want to like this garment because the cut of the top half works very well for her because it has a sculpted yet feminine bit of draping going on. I'm just being fussy about fabric but it's gorgeous otherwise. 

Oh Hai, I'm A Sleeve, Can I Eat Your Neck? - Julianne Moore in Lanvin

Between the sleeve, the creases and the cut, this is a looks a little cray cray. Julianne Moore is a talented actress and gorgeous woman but I find she has trouble on the carpet, however, you can tell she actually enjoys fashion and it doesn't worry her like it does with someone like Tina Fey (also gorgeous but permanently chooses navy and black, I actually thought her 2010 Golden Globes dress was an improvement because she started to enjoy herself). So while I think Julianne could really show off her beauty better if she had a more skilled stylist, I also admire her for going out and doing her thing, the colour is good on her, I just gotta rip that sleeve off!
