Every girl needs a good dress with a low back to make her feel like a million bucks. I'm counting on red wine nights when I can dance and be dipped low. Twirls and smiles when I catch your eye again. The past is a ghost that's fading by the second. Halloween can only bring so much to life and some ghouls are out of luck. Now when I get scared, I'm more excited than afraid. I can't be frightened of good things, only nervous on adrenaline. Horrors have been washed away and my house will only be haunted by friends pushing each other into the pool. Their laughter stays behind and sometimes keeps my neighbours up at night. I'll be sleeping soundly.

Katema launch

I'm so happy to report that Katema has opened their own boutique on Bree Street! Last week I visited the the beautiful space for the launch and I'm impressed with the stock. Initially focusing on leather, Katema has greatly expanded to include key pieces as well as fun trendy items. With luxe knits, casual denim and graphic tees - there's something for everyone. The quality is dreamy so I totally splurged on the most amazing dress that I can't wait to share in a look post. It was one size fits all and so flattering, I can't even. My name is Rebecca and It's 2033. The world is screwed now. You see, a while ago this humongous comet came crashing into the earth. Bam, total devastation! End of the world as we know it. No celebrities, no TV, no water. Blogs somehow survived, go figure. It hasn't rained in 11 years. Now 20 people gotta squeeze inside the same bathtub - so it ain't all bad.

I love that I drive you crazy baby. I want to be your tacky nightmare with fake finger tattoos. I've got my tank and camo so I'm ready to battle. Me and my ripper crew ain't got time for using a microscope and tweezers to deal with insignificants, we got bigger fish to fry. I sometimes have to scrounge to find good clothes so lemme tell you, this leather is staying stuck to my body. Anyways, I gotta split. It's been swell but swelling's gone down. Catch you in the future, bring some Dr Pepper for a girl, will ya?

I met designer Katherina at Cape Town Fashion Week and she told me about her line Katema. It was founded in Cape Town in April 2011 and the name Katema is a combination of her first and middle name (KAThErina MAria). She was kind enough to talk to me about her inspirations and aspirations.

The Katema lady:

Katema sees it's customers as independent and strong women who know what they want and go for it. Katema's clients are not afraid to wear their very own style instead of trying to look like everyone else. Individuality is very important to the Katema Lady.

Inspiration:
There is nothing more inspiring to me than sitting in a coffee house and watching people walking by. What are they wearing? Do they seem to be confident? Are they happy? How do they interact with others? What seems to make them smile? Fashion should make you feel confident and happy. If I see things which seem to make people confident and/or happy I feel inspired.

Why am I passionate about fashion:
Fashion was my passion before I even understood what the word ‘fashionable’ meant. I’ve always been very aware of how to dress myself. Even as a little girl. When I was about 4 years old I decided only to wear dresses and skirts and even those only in certain colours, which were (in my mind) very fashionable at the time. And that’s what I did. My mom had no chance of getting me in a pair of pants until I considered them to be ‘trendy’ again. My love for fashion only grew stronger the older I got. Fashion to me is a way to be creative. Some people paint or write songs, I put fashion ensembles together.

Where do I want Katema to go to in future:
Our trademark is leather. In fact Collection #1 only includes full leather garments but we’re planning on adding some more variety of fabrics in future collections to ‘spice’ it up a little. The main focus will remain on leather though and every single piece will include leather. Katema is a high class fashion label and this is exactly where I see it in the future. Katema belongs next to labels like Gucci or Armani.

Feathers + Fashion Week

I'm really into these feather headbands from Diva, I'm way too addicted to their accessories and I need an intervention. Cape Town Fashion Week is officially underway. Last night was the perfect start to an exciting week about all things fashion. I attended the Media Launch and had some wine, crème brûlée and laughs with Nicole Warr, the editor of Vintage Lifestyle Magazine and Katie O, the designer of a new leather line called Katema.

We got to speaking about dream items like Burberry trenchcoats and decadent Louboutins while we admired Katie's gorgeous Chanel bag. Those fashion houses really excell in making a particular investment piece, definitely things to save up for! I'll be covering 10 shows in total this week so please come say hi if you're there! I can't wait to share the 2011 collections with you.
