California dreaming

5/13/2014

I'm finally back home after a month in California. I visited family, found out I'm going to be an aunt again, ate tons of junk, did some touristy things and went to Coachella - but that's another story!
I've gone to Los Angeles a lot in my life because half of my family were born there but this time was pretty special. The trip was quite spontaneous and felt very important for me. I guess it all started cheesily enough after I watched The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. The gist of the movie is that the protagonist who'd once had all these plans about who he wanted to be and what he wanted to do, found those plans falling by the wayside over the years because he surrendered to the status quo of merely existing instead of really living. Suffice to say, the flick inspired me to be more adventurous. I have a huge fear of flying and I kept promising my American cousin I would visit her but I never did. In January, I decided to buy Coachella tickets online on a whim, not believing I would actually get them but decided that if I did, I'd use them as impetus to say "fuck fear" and make my way to the states - or as Tina Fey puts it, "Say yes, and you'll figure it out afterward".

I've been itching to write all about my adventures, I even kept it old school with a travel journal while I was away. I have so many photos that I'm excited to share, my computer is actually out of space right now! I'm looking forward to sorting through everything as my jetlag seems to have finally subsided and I have some time on my hands. Catch ya on the flip side!
